Saudi Gazette report
Makkah — The new Kiswa (the black cloth covering the Holy Kaaba) for the year 1439 Hijri is ready, according to the Committee for Inspecting the Holy Kaaba Cloth.
As is customary, the old Kiswa will be replaced with the new one on Dhul Hijjah 9 morning under the direct supervision of the President for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais.
A few days ago the Kiswa was folded up from the ground by three meters. The folded portion of the Kiswa was covered on all four sides with a white cloth approximately two meters wide.
Director General of the King Abdul Aziz Complex for the Kaaba Kiswa Ahmad Al-Mansouri said the measure was meant to keep the Kiswa clean and protect it from damage as many pilgrims try to touch it or even cut pieces of the cloth to take with them as souvenirs.
