A total of 41 professions in the Saudi city of Madinah will be restricted to Saudi nationals, according to a government decree.

The decree, which was issued by Saudi Minister of Labour and Social Development Ahmed bin Suleiman Al Rajhi, gave a deadline of April 7, 2019 for NGOs and June 10, 2019 for those working in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The jobs include those working in closed markets, commercial centres, as well as order takers, food service employees, security and safety directors, maintenance managers, room service managers, sales and marketing representatives and tourism programme directors, as well as the directors of front offices and staff relations.

In September, Saudi Arabia moved to restrict 43 professions in the retail sector. The restrictions, which were implemented on September 11, marked the first phase of an initiative that will eventually see 12 retail sub-sectors restricted to Saudi nationals in three phases.

The four sub-sectors restricted from September were automobile and motorbike showrooms, and shops selling ready-to-wear apparel, home and office furniture and home goods and utensils.
