MAKKAH — Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah and adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, announced on Tuesday plans to expand the cultivation of flowers and green areas to the entire holy sites.
“It is also essential to turn the mountains surrounding the holy sites into places for exhibiting flowers,” he said while opening the first flower show in the holy city at Muzdalifah.
He said that the Holy Capital Municipality and the Royal Commission to Develop Makkah and the Holy Sites would work to realize this goal. The emir also stressed the need to plant trees along the paths in the holy sites.
A prayer rug measuring 185x45 meters, made up of one million flowers, is the major highlight of the five-day festival. There are also an entertainment theater, recreational areas for children and special corners for productive families at the show.
