MAKKAH — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque replaced the Holy Kaaba's new cover (kiswa), under the supervision of Sheikh Dr. Abdurrahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Presidency, as is customary every year.
The kiswa replacement was carried out by a team selected from King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa.
The new kiswa consists of four separate sides and a door curtain. The Kaaba's kiswa consumes about 850 kg of raw silk, 120 kg of gold wire, and 100 silver wires.
About 200 well-trained Saudis are working at King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa, which has several sections: laundry, automatic weaving, manual weaving, printing, belts, gilding, sewing and assembling.
It has the largest sewing machine in the world in terms of length. The 16-meter-long machine is operated using a computer system. In addition, the factory has several support departments such as laboratory, administrative services, quality, public relations and health for workers, and occupational safety in the complex. — SPA
