Jakarta. Sovereign wealth fund Danantara has received an invitation to acquire an equity stake in Madinah Airport in Saudi Arabia, Chief Executive Rosan Roeslani said on Thursday, as the two countries deepen their investment partnership.
Rosan said the proposal emerged during his recent visit to Makkah and Madinah, where he held meetings with Saudi Investment Minister officials, a royal adviser, and representatives of Mada Group, the operator of Madinah Airport.
"Follow-up discussions will begin soon through technical talks between Danantara and Mada Group," Rosan told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
He did not disclose the size or potential value of the proposed investment.
Rosan also provided an update on the planned Indonesian Hajj Village in Makkah, a Danantara-backed project that has entered the architectural selection and conceptual design stage.
The announcement comes two days after Indonesia and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the promotion of direct investment.
Rosan, who also serves as Indonesia's investment minister, described the agreement as a strategic step toward elevating bilateral economic relations through closer investment cooperation.
Saudi Arabia's realized foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia totaled $126.2 million between 2021 and the first half of 2026, according to government data.
In a separate statement, Rosan said shifting global economic conditions were encouraging countries to forge stronger partnerships, as investors increasingly seek stability, regulatory certainty and long-term investment opportunities alongside competitive costs.
"Saudi Arabia is pursuing its Vision 2030 agenda, while Indonesia is accelerating natural resource industrialization, infrastructure development and economic transformation. These parallel development strategies create tremendous opportunities for collaboration," he said.
Under the MoU, signed by Rosan and his Saudi counterpart Fahad bin Abduljalil Al-Saif, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in direct investment through the exchange of investment data and business opportunities, regulatory cooperation, joint investment promotion activities, and exchanges of expertise and technical knowledge.
