Saudi Gazette report
MADINAH — A group of British pilgrims cycled 6,500 km on their way to Madinah in their six-week long journey from London. The group was accorded a warm welcome by Saudi authorities, people of Madinah and scores of cycling enthusiasts at a traditional ceremony by beating drums, showering rose petals. The pilgrims were offered Arabian coffee, dates and Zamzam water.
The pilgrims started their Haj journey by visiting Madinah to pay homage to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) before proceeding to Makkah and the holy sites to complete their Haj rites.
The pilgrims were impressed by the warm welcome and lauded the outstanding services being provided to the Guests of Allah.
They said the excellent facilities and the consummate services have made it easier for them to perform the pilgrimage this year.
Mishaal Al-Touhami, chairman of the Society of Culture and Arts in Madinah warmly welcomed the British pilgrims wishing them a happy stay and an easy and comfortable Haj.
He showered them with memorial gifts to make their Haj a memorable event.
The trip, according to the British riders, was aimed at conveying a picture of Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance among the countries they passed through.
